What to see
St Flannan's site is shared with an even older building - the 12th century St Flannan's Oratory, estimated to have been built circa 1100. The cathedral is surrounded by the graveyard, a very peaceful place of rest. The earliest marked graves are those of Bishop Roan 1692 and Elisabeth Brown 1719
Projects
Projects
A prioritised programme of projects has been identified and is being implemented.
We have focused initially on stabilising and re-pointing the belltower structure above main roof level and this work is now complete. We have also replaced the main rainwater gutters and downpipes, added a lightning protection system to the tower and have started a phased programme of repairs to the main external wall buttresses.
Funds Required
Our programme of projects requires significant funds, currently estimated at over €5m for the period 2022-2027. Of this, almost €1.5m has been raised and spent; leaving a current fundraising target of €3.5m.
Our fundraising committee is working with some primary grant-aid sources, notably including Clare Co Co and the Department of [correct name?] who have been generous in supporting our efforts to date; but there is still a need for significant funding from other sources if our plans are to be realised and the future of the building safeguarded.
If you would like to make a donation you can do this via the button below;
or if you would like to make a larger contribution to one of our projects we would be delighted to meet with you to discuss this.
