Baptism St Flannan's Cathedral

Baptism

Baptism

From earliest times, Christians have welcomed newcomers into the family of the Church by pouring water over the head in the name of the Holy Trinity, signing the forehead with the sign of the cross and giving a lighted candle.

We welcome enquiries from those wishing to have their children baptised in St Flannan’s and those who wish to explore being baptised as an adult.

Confirmation

At confirmation, candidates reaffirm the promises and commitments made on their behalf at baptism.

The Bishop prays for the candidates asking that they may be strengthened by the Holy Spirit.

We welcome enquiries from those wishing to be married in St Flannans.

Holy Matrimony in the Cathedral requires at least one of the parties must be able to demonstrate their membership of the Church of Ireland or a Church with which it is in communion (i.e. a member Church of the Anglican Communion, the Porvoo Union of Churches or the Old Catholic Church of the Union of Utrecht).

Funerals

Funerals are an opportunity for friends and family to express their grief, to give thanks for the life which has now completed its journey in this world and to commend the person into God’s keeping.

We come together as a community to support each other and to pray and express our confidence in God’s hope.

To explore Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Matrimony, to arrange a funeral or for any other pastoral matter, please contact The Dean.
